The Pony Soldier Clay, one-of-a-kind sculpture by Denise Banda down on the couple.

In October of 2000, my father passed away from cancer. I wanted to honor him with a special horse. Although my dad rarely discussed his military experience, an American flag wrapped his coffin. I thought about his devotion to his idea of America. I felt an overwhelming sense of pride and comfort even though my heart was breaking. At the end of the service we sang the Battle Hymn of the Republic. I knew the horse to honor my father would be the "Pony Soldier". Then came September 11. It occurred to me that the pony soldier connects the past, present and the future. My father was a humble man and would be more comfortable knowing that I now dedicate the "Pony Soldier" to all the heroes we encounter in our lives. |
