The 2009 Annual Indiana CDE will be held on September 4-6, 2009 at the Hoosier Horse Park in Edinburgh, Indiana. approx thirty miles south of Indianapolis. This year’s panel of judges includes Craig Kellogg (NC) as President of the Jury, Jane Merritt (CA) as Dressage/Cones Judge and Penny Nicely (NV) as Technical Delegate.
The ICDE is sponsored by the Indiana Whips and Wheels club with nine club members comprising the organizing committee. This popular, low-key event caters to first-time competitors while offering all three lower-level divisions of training, preliminary and intermediate. Approved by the American Driving Society, ICDE is open to all combinations of horses, ponies and VSE (very small equines or minis). The Indiana CDE is a two-day event with dressage and cones (phases A and C) driven back-to-back on Saturday with the Marathon (phase B) driven on Sunday. Beginners have the option to drive dressage and cones without doing the marathon phase.
Combined Driving is the driven counterpart of three day eventing. Eventers do a dressage test (series of specific movements), jump over fences and ride cross country while driven horses do a dressage test, run a cones course and drive cross country while navigating a series of obstacles in a given time period.
This small town show boasts a high of sixty-five entries which have come from twenty-four states and several Provinces of Canada, from the neighboring counties to as far away as the Carolinas, Florida, Colorado, California, New York and Pennsylvania.
