From the Editor:

Isn’t it astonishing how a simple concept can slide all over the place and portends great improvements in all facets of our lives. Take an open mind for example.

Open-mindedness is a very useful tool. It is necessary for relationships with people, to believe they might be capable or compatible. It allows fresh and new things to come our way, and when they do, encourages our willingness to engage them. An open mind goes hand in hand with curiosity, and curiosity requires optimism. Just ask the cat or the entrepreneur.

In the context of art, this mind set is a prerequisite for producing new work. Just to begin an entirely new piece requires an open mind curious enough to let the mind wander, optimistic enough to spend some time with a new idea, and brave enough to put it on display for all to admire or critique.

This openness is apparent in the photography of Tony Bonanno, who immersed himself among horses to create the Hooves & Dust series in this issue’s center spread. Artists Anna Noelle Rockwell and Kathy Newell Worby are also exciting artists exploring a new path.

So let this concept take hold of you as a viewer: turn the pages and enjoy!Sarah Crampton
