Does Black Beauty live at the end of your street? Does Pegasus take wing from the pasture around the corner? In Vanessa Wright’s new internationally touring equestrian exhibit, The Literary Horse: When Legends Come to Life, you’ll discover that the horses of myth and literature are alive and thriving in your neighborhood!
The Literary Horse features up to 200 photos of today’s horses and horse-people paired with quotations from the world’s great books. Showcasing first-time riders through Special Olympic and Olympic champions, and equestrian disciplines ranging from carriage driving and show-jumping to jousting and vaulting, The Literary Horse provides visitors with a real-life tour of world classics, such as the Iliad, Richard III, and Jane Eyre, as well as beloved children’s tales, such as Black Beauty, Cinderella, and King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
The Literary Horse has delighted more than 40,000 visitors since its debut in May 2008, and it will be touring public libraries worldwide through 2012. Visit the exhibit at your local library, or trot on out to see it at the Oldham County Public Library in La Grange to celebrate the 2009 Kentucky Derby, the Saratoga Springs Public Library for the August horse-racing season, or the Central Library in downtown Lexington for the 2010 World Equestrian Games.
All exhibits are free and open to the public. For more information, a tour schedule, activities, and a booklist, please visit The Literary Horse website: www.theliteraryhorse.com.
